EAST FREMANTLE mayor Alan Ferris is talking up the benefits of a possible sale of the Leeuwin Barracks for housing. The riverside site is likely to be earmarked for sale in the imminent Defence White Paper.

WOONERF is set to hit Fremantle. The Dutch-inspired movement to reclaim streets from motor car dominance has already been adopted in cities across the US, Canada, Europe and the UK. Now Fremantle city council is hoping to trial the road-sharing concept along the capuccino strip.

‘No handouts’ caveat for park

FREMANTLE city council is set to be handed Princess May Park by the state government. The council has leased the park for more than 20 years but the former Labor government had been looking at handing it to the National Trust.

ELECTRIC prods are being used illegally on Fremantle wharf, with the painful devices being shoved into the faces of sheep and cattle during the loading of live exports. It is illegal to use prods on the face or genitals. Footage received by the Fremantle Herald shows the prods being used indescriminately.
