Time for action: MP Carles wants netball to move south for light rail plan

FREMANTLE independent green MP Adele Carles has developed a feasibility study for a light rail pilot project down Hampton Road and is calling on the Barnett government to roll it out in the 2011/12 budget. Light rail has been debated for more than 10 years but with an additional 30,000 people predicted to boost the population immediately south of the port city it’s time for action, she says.

TRUCK traffic is flooding local roads because the Barnett government has “dropped the ball” on rail freight says Labor transport spokesman Ken Travers. He said the Carpenter government had grown rail freight from three to 15 percent and had been on track to achieve 30 percent by 2013.
Long delay for bike theft footage

POLICE are being hampered in their bid to investigate a series of bike thefts around Fremantle by long delays getting video footage from the WA transport department. Ten bikes were stolen from Fremantle train station in January and police still have not received CCTV footage that could be vital to tracking down the offenders.

The closure of four pedestrian railway crossings between Fremantle and South Fremantle is ringing warning bells for locals … they are angry that the Public Transport Authority’s ad in last Saturday’s Herald was headed “pedestrian crossing upgrades” yet four of the crossings are to be axed in June.
