NORFOLK STREET and South Terrace in Fremantle were closed Thursday morning following fears a bomb had been left in the E-Tech TAFE carpark (opposite the Norfolk Hotel). The relief was palpable when it was discovered there was no bomb and police issued the all-clear.

ABORIGINAL elder Marie Thorne wants a police crackdown on street drinking and yob behaviour in Fremantle’s CBD. And she says it’s way past time the port city had an Aboriginal community centre and a drying out centre.

Patrols ‘just one option’

FREMANTLE mayor Brad Pettitt has played down recent media reports the port city is to employ security patrols. A recent crime and safety report found crime was on the increase in Fremantle, but it was still less than in Northbridge, Kalgoorlie and Broome, Dr Pettitt said.

CCC probe into arrests

The Corruption and Crime Commission will review a police internal investigation into the arrests of five teenagers at the Fremantle Bhangra dance party. Only one boy ended up being charged and parents claim they were subjected to insulting and threatening language by police upon their arrival at Fremantle lock-up.
