NORFOLK STREET and South Terrace in Fremantle were closed Thursday morning following fears a bomb had been left in the E-Tech TAFE carpark (opposite the Norfolk Hotel). The relief was palpable when it was discovered there was no bomb and police issued the all-clear.

FREMANTLE mayor Brad Pettitt has played down recent media reports the port city is to employ security patrols. A recent crime and safety report found crime was on the increase in Fremantle, but it was still less than in Northbridge, Kalgoorlie and Broome, Dr Pettitt said.

Only one boy ended up being charged and parents claim they were subjected to insulting and threatening language by police upon their arrival at Fremantle lock-up.
