WYOLA CLUB members have voted overwhelmingly to support the sale of a $2 million property to bar manager Phil Douglas for a quarter of its value. At the Saturday meeting an unknown number of Wyola members also rejected motions to sack Mr Douglas and the management committee.

THE WA commerce department is under fire for failing to properly deal with myriad controversies surrounding the Fremantle Wyola Club. In 2003 the department investigated a lease giving club manager Phil Douglas – who was treasurer at the time – first option to buy the club’s Bannister Street properties on very generous terms.

THE powerful WA commerce department has raided the Wyola social club and the home of club manager/secretary Phil Douglas. During the week the department told the club to retract claims made in an unsigned report and circulated to members last week, or face Supreme Court action.

WYOLA CLUB members have demanded that a special general meeting of the club be held so they can dump the committee and sack manager/secretary Phil Douglas. The catalyst for the action was the club’s sale to Mr Douglas of 8 Bannister Street in the heart of Fremantle’s historic West End.

PHIL DOUGLAS has become a millionaire overnight, with his $482,000 purchase of two Bannister Street properties, independently valued at more than $2 million, officially going through during the week. The circumstances of the sale are still under investigation by both WA Treasury and the WA consumer protection department.
