FREMANTLE Hospital support staff walked off the job this week after being offered a 50 cents an hour pay rise in return for losing permanency and the possibility of being transferred to Joondalup and Rockingham at the whim of management.

A MEDICAL centre will be built at the corner of South Terrace and Suffolk Street in Fremantle after winning official approval this week. The first two floors will be medical specialist suites and offices – expected to be used by Fremantle Hospital medicos for private patients – while the third floor will have four apartments.
Mental health unit opens

A NEW mental health facility was opened next to Fremantle hospital this week after sitting empty for five months. The Ngatti centre, named for the Nyungar word meaning “continue to
move forward,” will provide short-term accommodation for up to 16 young people suffering mental illness, as well as counselling and rehabilitation.
